FYI:
I deleted the key mentionned in old 2.42 : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RomCenter2
then
I reinstalled RC and it works perfect

Same problem here.
Tried with 2.62 and beta.
I'm running Win XP Pro, with full admin rights.
When I launch RC I get this error msg: "File Not Found. No datafiles loaded. Choose a new file blabla"
When I go in File/Dat and I choose Add, then a ZIP file of Mame84 or any other zipped dat file I get ...
