OK, without touching your existing RC installation, can you try it with this version? Place it in a different folder, run it and then just add the folder and see what happens. If it works, try backing up your roms and test it further.

Remember, it's still a beta version, could have serious bugs...

I'm also getting this exact error with official Redump IBM - PC compatible DATs for the last year or so. If you go back to one from a few years ago it works fine. Do you have a specific dat you are having problems with?

Well, it seems pretty obvious. The database file you are trying to open must have .rdt as extension. You probably accidentally renamed it and deleted the extension. I'm guessing it's "name" instead of "name.rdt".
