[BUG 3.54]samples troubles

Post by SFX Group »

So i have a database, it says a zip file should have 4 files, i have this zip file, however it saying its the wrong name and needs more files... dont understand, shows green in the Datefile view, however yellow in the file view!.

See image here, everything is un-merged, i need all files to have samples, games and bios in them, however i would have thought the bios would have stayed in its own file as well.... am i missing something here?

The above should give me the most amount of files and means if a game is moved it will play with out the need of supporting files.

FIXED, however might be a minor bug...

If i set the BIOS merge mode in the preferences > Romsets to "split" this fixes the above problem, however if its st back to "un-merged" to make sure all BIOS are in every zip file, the actual zip file with the BIOS in it can never be attained to "green", however the ROM database shows that zip file as green as you have all the needed ROMS.

Ok. I will check this problem to see if it's really a bug.
Thank you.

Hi Eric

Have double checked this, it may not be a bug...., it doesnt export the fact it needs those roms at all as missing, still slighty odd, might be worth a check.
Many Thanks

You don't have it inside the zip, do you? As far as i can see, it is shown in the tree so it must be outside the zip. I wonder, if you manually put it in the zip, does it appear green in the rom panel?

You are correct, its not inside a ZIP, however it was in a zip and the file was still grey, so it doesnt like "tick.wav", i took it out the zip to see if it would like it then, i didnt want to put it in the zip file until the bug was resolved, ive some accross alot of bugs like this, it deleted around 1Gb of files saying they are not applicable, makes me wonder if they where as the older version was happy with them.

It seems to have issues creating "dummy" roms as well in some files, it just wont do it, if i create them, padd them to the length needed then they go green!. I will try with this one later tonight and post a screen shot(s)

It seems if i manaually put it in the file it supposed to be in then its ok, however isnt the whole point of the software to do this for me? i am worried that other files i am looking for i really have already due to this issue?

UPDATE:

So i now have a file called topgear.zip which has the tick.zip in it (the tick.zip shows as green here), i have another zip file also called topgear.zip in another location, its showing as yellow It seems it will only see tick.zip as a usable file once its inside the proper zip file THEN it will use this file:

Now i right click on the yellow copy of topgear.zip and "fix game", then get the below output (you can see it missed the sound file):

I checked and this is normal, as in split mode, the bios file aristmk5.zip doesn't exist anymore in the database, as all the bios roms are spread in the games. So when rc analyses the aristmk5 file, it identifies a game (adonis here).

Testing with tick.wav is not a good idea (see here).
I did some tests with bang.wav and galaga, and it seems there is a bug in this version anyway. I will analyze more precisely and fix that for the 3.55.

Thanks,

To confirm though, assuming there are CRC listed, a file outside a zip should be found and locked as needed somewhere (what ever the color)? so it doesnt matter if its inside a zip or not?

Does this bug only apply to sound files or other data roms?
Many Thanks

Re: [BUG 3.54]samples troubles

Post by SFX Group »

Ive noticed something else, there are a number of games needing sounds like 1.wav etc... if i dropped in 01.wav from the wrong file, it now decides this whole file is the different game, renaming the whole zip file to the new game, then ignoring the fact the zip file name is a game i need.

Its almost like there is alot of weight put on the sound files almost like "found this sound as xxx.zip so even though you have 99% of the roms for another game here, this is the wrong zip file name".

What i do is export all the missing games, i then import this generated list to a program that then creates all the zip files with nothing in them, take this put them in RomCenter and populate them with ROMS knowing which ones i am missing.

However as soon as i put the wrong sound file in a file, it says "wrong file name, change to xxx.zip" which is a file i already have else where in the system.

Heres a great example, i created kosmokil.zip, it has everything other than sounds:
Image

If i now add the wrong sounds, its decided the whole file should now be "subroc3d.zip", surly this shoudl tell me the wrong files are in kosmokil.zip rather than change the whole file?

This is exactly what is happening. Samples are the 'heaviest' file during analysis.
Why ?
Because a sample has no crc, and because of that, there is no way to identify a sample if it is outside its parent zip.
If I rename the file, the sample in it is lost.

In your example, kosmokil.zip is renamed in "subroc3d.zip" which will allow the correct identification of the sample in it. If you fix the file, a new kosmokil.zip file will be created. Nothing is lost.
