Separating ROMs by Region?
Is there a way to separate ROM's by region? I have no interest in playing the Japanese/Hispanic/etc roms and would like to decrease the size of my collection by narrowing it down to only US versions of games.
Anyone know if RC will do that? I appreciate any help!

All you would have to do is right click on the roms folder in RomCenter and select fix game (This will do all roms in one step). Just make sure to select remove useless roms under preferences.Guest wrote:do I need to go through and run Fix Game on each ROM
Do you want all the sets or just a few? (NES, Atari 2600, ect)
I'll post them here as I create them.

Cool, I am doing that now (fixing the ROMS). Thanks for the tip.
The emulators I am interested in setting up with US sets are NES, SNES, GBA, N64, and MAME. I am doing this for my xbox, which is why I would like to conserve space and only run the US versions of the ROMS. Not to mention the fact that MAME on Xbox has issues with trying to load the larger games (I am not sure if slimming down to only the US versions will help that or not, but its worth a try).
Does RC handle other emulators or just MAME? I was under the impression that I would have to use some other tool (like maybe GoodGUI) to verify the other ROM sets.

If there is a datafile for it RomCenter can handle it.Chode wrote:Does RC handle other emulators or just MAME?
I have around 30 at my site.
Datafiles
Logiqx has most of the Arcade related datafiles at his site.
You will need plugins for the SNES and N64 datafiles. Those can be found at the Romcenter download page.

Mame will be a problem since the origin of some of the roms are not clearly stated.Chode wrote:The emulators I am interested in setting up with US sets are NES, SNES, GBA, N64, and MAME.
I could create a datafile without clones (Except where the US version is a clone), but eliminating nonUS roms would just be a best guess.

These datafiles are US Only (without Baddumps, Overdumps, or Translations)
If you would also like the Hacks, and/or Trainers removed (or the o, b, and/or T put back in) let me know.
GBA
N64
NES
SNES
Note: make sure you back up your roms before using these!
Just in case you change yor mind or this is not exatly what you want.

This datafile should be close to what you want but by no means perfect. I know I missed a few Japanese games and probably removed some roms I should'nt have.
Notes for this datafile:
Make sure and select Un-Merged (All ROMs in both sets) under preferences.
As always back up your existing ROMs set.
Custom MAME 0.83 Datafile

You can use the romcenter filter and the datafile creator to build any custom datafiles with no additional tools:
Put a filter in the toolbar filter box: for example : us. This will display all items which contains the 'us' string. You can use more advanced filter (regulars expressions). See rc doc for that.
Then, you can save the displayed item list as a new datafile from the files menu:
Select all items and go to 'File/create datafile from.../selected items'.
This will create a new datafile with only the selected items in it. You can also use that function to create a datafile of your missing games for example...

I could'nt get the toolbar filter box to work, but turns out it was my mouse. If the scroll wheel is touched after entering the search, the results would reset.
Is there a way to exclude a filter.
Say I wanted to remove all baddumps.
I enter [b* to list only the baddumps.
What syntax would I use to remove them?

Hi,
I devevelopped a tool for filtering roms. You can find it at https://github.com/benjdum59/filterRoms
