RC 3.57 froze (or is taking a very long time) when loading a mame 0.142 DB from 3.56 and converting it to the new DB. Step where it froze is "Analyze new files".

EDIT: It didn't freeze after all, it just took a really long time (something around 1.5 - 2.5 hrs)...
EDIT2: In general 3.57 is slower. Refreshing a large roms folder (10,000 files) seems slower than 3.56.

RomCenter 3.57 keeps freezing during analyze file stage. This happens for MAME. But works fine for the full sets of all my other emms.

My PC stats are as Follows:

AMD Athalon +2400 2.0 GHZ
1.50 GB RAM
Windows XP sp3

This has not happened on other versions of RC. I understand scanning full sets may take a while but its has never taken hours to scan my MAME set and it gets to the point where I have to CTRL ALT DEL and end process, I let it run this morning for over 3 hours and it never finished, older Vers of RC only took like 20-30 mins to add the full MAME rom path.

Any Suggestions?

Code: Select all

UPDATE: I just downloaded ver 3.54 and there appears to be no issues, was able to load rom dir in about 10 mins or so. Might be an issue with ver 3.57, please let me know what you find.

I noticed the same thing. It seems it just takes a really long time. There's not anything that can be done. Either wait for it to finish or wait for Eric to return from his 2 week vacation to take a look at it.

Hi,

I was facing the same issue (duplicates) and some more using MAME WIP 0.142u2 datfile imported from Emulator.
When I changed the samples mode to "un-merged" this disappeared.

After upgrading from an earlier version of romcenter (don't remember which, maybe 3.52) to latest 3.57, some issues occurred:

1. some settings in Preferences->Fix do not work properly anymore. I have all fix parametes activated, except "unzip & rezip". However, when selecting sets and use the fix option, nothing is fixed. However, when I then enter a set, select all files and use the fix option, everything gets fixed properly. It gets kind of time consuming doing this for each set to be fixed/updated.

*Edit* one more thing to add to 1.: when viewing the list of sets, and trying to fix any set with "bad names". This is not being fixed after applying the fix option from the context menu. To summarize, my hypothesis for 1. is, that the fix option on "set level" is simply broken. It also happens for errors in sets with flag "can be generated" and "not needed in this file".
Some parts of the fixing process seem to work however, e.g. "remove comments".

2. When checking "unzip & rezip" additionally, there is a strange message in the log pane saying "unknown path in database". This happened only twice and can't be reproduced now. Also not sure if this is a new bug or was in there earlier as I never used this function before.

3. under Preferences->Emulator, my earlier setting of Emu parameters -rp "%4" %1" doesn't work anymore. When MAME is launched it tells me that I should check the rom path set in mame.ini but I didn't change anything there.

*Edit* after re-creating the game database this issue vanished. But shortly after, it was back. Params aren't passed on again.

Thx
Davy

Hi all
I will have a look at these problems and post a new release.

Thank you for the details and tests you have done, it will help finding the problem.
Please keep posting if you find something else.

Note: all these fixes will also be useful for the new version 4.0 currently in development, as most 3.x database procedures will be used.

Thanks Eric,

talking about 3.x DB procedures. Do you plan to add the game flag "playable" somewhen? MAME does indicate on internal rom selection whether a game is actually playable at the current WIP status or not.
IMHO it could be really helpful when organizing one's roms accordingly.

Regards
Davy

Yes, it will be added in v4.

I fixed most of the problems reported or not.
A new release is coming this week (I hope).
