Custom TOSEC renaming - HELP!

Post by Guest »

Is it possible to customize the way romcenter renames a TOSEC set? The problem I have is that I'm trying to FTP games to my Xbox but the names are too long. I'd like to cut out the useless info such as year, publisher, etc. Does Romcenter support this? If not, does anyone know of a util that does? Any feed back would be extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

It's not possible to change how rc rename roms. You must change that in the datafile.
You can do this with basics macro in excel. Load the datafile in excel, locate the long filenames and trunc them using a macro.

Note please, that if you simply remove year+publisher+other "useless info" - you may get duplicated entries. There are often games with same title, but different publisher. Datfile modified this way *may* simply not work in RomCenter. (you may have two exactly same filenames with different crc32 afterwards).
If you have any good ideas how to solve such situations - you may try TOSEC forum. :)
Optional shortenning of filenames was already considered. But if there will be enough votes - there is some slight chance that it will be reconsidered. Actually - I had exactly same problem when trying various emus on XBOX... :D
