ERROR message when running a gba rom

whenever i try to play a gba game through romcenter, Visual Boy Advanced pops up but it says Unsupported file type: (the rom number ex. 2279)
i tried fixing tyhe rom and playing it then but same error. how do i fix this?

I'm not into GBA stuff but a logical question to ask would be the following: "so, we should assume that when you try to play it directly from the emulator, it works just fine, right?"

If it doesn't, perhaps...
- you are missing some roms
- this game is unplayable or
- the emulator you are using does not properly support this game

If it does then Eric would probably be more qualified to answer your question.
