Tosec dats not working with v3 anymore?

Post by Flush »

Now that Romcenter switched to a new database, is the old ".dat" format of Tosec indeed not supported anymore?

Hi there.

Try going to "File \ New - Load games list from a datafile" and check if the datafile is handled properly, otherwise you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for Eric to return and answer your question in more details.

I got the dat showing up after following the new tutorial, but none of my unorganized files are recognized, even the ones which I know are in Tosec. They all are listed with a grey icon.

Also, if I press F5 to rescan the folder, I get this error window:

Here's the URL of the image as I can't find the upload function here:

For the dat, I just chose "File - New", "Load games list from a database" and there was already a list of dats in the application data folder that I could choose from. I guess Romcenter installed them there? I then let it convert the Amiga one which now doesn't recognize any of my ADFs.

I tried with a dat called "Commodore - Amiga (20080613).dat".
None of my files are recognized ! (I have ~30 games for the test, this is not very relevant).
I checked the crc of my files in windows, and in romcenter3, and it matches. I noticed the format is not the same: mine is adf, dat is ipf.
I don't know amiga format enough to tell the difference between these formats, but IMO, you must have a dat which match your file format.

And as there is no amiga plugin, standart crc is used and as long as crc and size match datafiles infos, your files must appear green or yellow.

So,
- find a dat with the same format as your files
- If all is grey or red, zip on file and open the zipped file with winzip and compare the winzip crc/size to romcenter one (in datafile node and also file node).

Oh indeed. I didn't notice that the dat only has IPFs and not ADFs. It's only after clicking on an entry of the database in the tree list that the extension name becomes visible.

But isn't it you who created and added this Amiga database to the latest Romcenter version? Why did you only include an IPF one?

You're right, I provided an ipf amiga datafile. I only knew adf format, and didn't think another format exists and I didn't check.

I did a gogle search and it seems ipf is a real preservation format and is better than adf... Read herefor more info.

I know what IPF is and it's not "better", just different. The majority of people using an Amiga emulator still prefer ADFs, it's just more common and easier to create, whereas IPFs are mainly done by a single team.
