Fixed[BUG 3.20] operating system directive CreateFile failed

hey there. i downloaded the latest romcenter version and tried to load the latest mame dat file. however it just won't work and stops with the following error. always. other dat files seem to work. i can't figure out whats wrong.
pass 1/5
Database closed
**Error

perating system directive CreateFile failed
Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden.
At procedure 'P_TRANSFERTGAMES'
At procedure 'P_LOADDATAFILE'
Ready
the german part means "the system cannot find the given path." my windows xp sp2 is german, with the normal german file structure. i tried changing the default dir-pathes of romcenter to custom directories. no success.
also is it normal that you cannot access the PREFERENCES in romcenter without a dat file loaded? everything is greyed out for me

any help would be appreciated

Maybe a bad configuration. Edit romcenter.ini to see if all paths are ok:
- Run romcenter
- File/Open data folder
- Close romcenter
- Edit romcenter.ini (in the data folder)
- Check if all paths are ok. If not, modify bad folder and report which one were bad here.

hmm. checked all paths. everything is set up correctly. it seems to be a problem with my system. something like a buffer overflow or something. i tried another dat file (for zinc). worked, then i added my mame rom dir. and while scanning through the files it stopped with the same error.
when i put just one rom file in an empty dir and let it scan, it works.
does romcenter use any kind of resources that have to be installed? like .net or any runtime stuff?
3.20 error creating MAME datafile from emulator

Hey guys.
I searched around the forums for an answer to this but I can't find anything...
After installing 3.20 (and 3.11 as well, I believe), and when I attempt to create a datafile from MAMEUI, I get the following error message immediately after pass 1/5:
Code: Select all
Database closed
**Error :operating system directive CreateFile failed
The system cannot find the path specified.
At procedure 'P_TRANSFERTGAMES'
At procedure 'P_LOADDATAFILE'
Pretty sure 3.00 does not give this problem.
Sorry if this is a known issue or I'm doing something wrong. I've used RomCenter for quite a while and I've never encountered anything like this before.

You're right.
Thanks Wanderer.
I can also confirm that nearly all menu items are grayed out.
3.00 is working fine, though.

I've tried with a few versions of MAME and MAMEUI since 3.20 was released, most recently 0.130. In fact, when I download the datafile linked to on Romcenter.com (Logiqx), the file won't load either.
I'm running English Windows XP SP3 (US English I think, but maybe Canadian?)
The paths in my ini file look correct, but could it be due to Romcentre and MAME residing on one drive (C:\), while the ROMs themselves are on another drive (D:\). Both are local drives.

Thanks for the info.
Here is a beta version of the next release ! Tell me if things are better.
This is an update, unzip it in your romcenter folder, replacing romcenter.exe and template.bin
You have to create new databases for this version.

Thanks for your help on the new beta! I tried posting a reply to the BUG thread already going, but was not permitted to do so...
Unfortunately, I'm still getting the same (sort of) error:
Code: Select all
Reindexing.
pass 1/5
Database closed
**Error :operating system directive CreateFile failed
The system cannot find the path specified.
At procedure 'P_TRANSFERTGAMES'
At procedure 'P_LOADDATAFILE'

I updated the database to 2.1 in version 3.20 (from 2.0)
Get old database files (2.0.3.12981) in version 3.00 and copy them in the 3.30 folder.
Files to copy are:
- udf\*
- intl\*
- fbclient.dll
- gbak.exe
- gds32.dll
- ib_util.dll
I changed authorisation in the forum so that you can post.

Works!
I had to move msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll as well, but after that the datafile was created successfully!

Ok...
It seems some problems comes from this new db release
Could you try also version 3.30 with only msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll ? (just to be sure it does not work)

Confirmed. I tried with msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll, but otherwise the stock 3.30 files, and same error message.

Thank you.
Now, I have downloaded latest builds of the database.
Could you try these 3 versions ? This is the last action I need. It will be usefull to select the next db version included in rc 3.30.
Thanks

Here are my results.
Firebird-2.0.5.13206_rc: I was able to successfully start RomCenter and create a datafile with MAME.
Firebird-2.1.2.18126_rc and Firebird-2.5.0.23250_rc: I get a runtime error, which prevents RomCenter from starting:
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Games\Romcenter\romcenter.exe

Ok. Thank you for your help.
I would like to use the 2.1.2 version, but it doesn't work on my pc with rc 3.30 (I don't have your error, but another one later).
Anyway, I will make it work and will need again your help to see if this version work on your pc.
So, stay tuned...
