grey - unknown game

So i'm a total newb to this board and romcenter.
Here is my situation:
-I'm trying to check which roms will work in surreal64 - i think it's version 'xxx'
-The emulator will be playing on my xbox
-I have romcenter 3.20
When I followed the instructions here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1866
and loaded the data files (not the emulator exe) for nintendo 64 and then the rom files path, ALL the games (319 of them) came out grey. Except action replay bios and the game shark. Under 'info' it says 'unknown game'
-they are currently in a '.zip' format but inside the files they're '.z64' files
Why are none of the games showing up?? how do i get the right data files for these games? i have no idea where to look.
