Split samples not activated

Is there a reason in Settings / "Samples merge mode", the user cannot select "Split mode" (it's deactivated)? Cannot select the option and also cannot select a folder. Is it a bug or not yet implemented?

I would also like to know if there is a reason in both RC3.x and 4.x, Samples default value is Merged (in main rom set) and not Split, as ROMS and BIOS are.

Split sample will be for beta 4.
The reason it is merged by default is because in split mode, you have to assign on folder as 'sample folder', and when you create a new db, no roms folders are loaded.

Perhaps a better way would be to just select "split mode" without having the folder selection textbox. The user could then add the samples path as a normal path and then he would select it and press a button or rightclick it and select "set this path as samples path" from a menu. It seems more consistent this way because all paths are selected and shown the same way. After setting the path as a "samples path", it could be shown having a different icon in the tree.

Yes. Eventually, it will result in another way to switch to split samples. A sample folder icon will be used.
