Questions About the filenames and filesizes of N64 ROMs

Post by Gangstanerd »

What's up with the [A] [!], [E] [!], [!], [f1] filenames of ROMs? What is that supposed to mean? For Super Smash Brothers, there are several filenames, Super Smash Bros. [A] [!], Super Smash Bros. [E] [!], Super Smash Bros. [!], and Super Smash Bros. [f1]. The [E] [!] is 32 mb while the rest are 16 mb. What's up with that? If the filesize is higher is that version better or are there any differences between them? If someone knows an answer to all of these newbie questions, please post and help a guy out. It would really be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks a lot. It really helped me out but I still have that unanswered question about the filesize. Why is one version bigger than the others? 16 MB and 32 MB. Thats double the size! But if you don't know that's OK because the size doesn't matter just as long as the ROM works and is a [!], verified good dump right?

All the Roms work except the Overdumps [o] and bad dumps (even those work sometimes)
If your only interested in having one version of a game, Verified Good dumps would be preferred.
Some games do not have a veirfied good dump, in that situation you would look for "Game Name " or "Game name [E]" ect.
When a game does not have [!] it simply means it is the best rom available. In most cases the rom will play just fine.
